I asked him about Emma's recessed chin and he seems to think it may be that, not a small chin, in which case it could move forward as she grows. We can always elect to move it forward if it does not. Of course, if her tongue continues to obstruct her airway when it's released moving her jaw may be deemed medically necessary.
Following that appointment we met with a speech pathologist to discuss feeding Emma orally. She had a listen to her swallow and then decided to try her with substance! She had her first taste of food today - apple sauce! The spoon was just dipped in the sauce so there wasn't too much for her to deal with...
You can see the speech pathologist using a stethoscope to listen to her breathing and swallowing while I feed Emma. The SP said that her breath sounds stayed good throughout, which suggests that the apple sauce went down the food tube, not the air tube as we feared!! After consulting with the pulmonologist she will let us know if we should start doing 5 dips once a day.
And now, well, we're going swimming!
