Sleep Study

Last night we all stayed over at the hospital for Emma's sleep study. The point of the study is to closely monitor her breathing while asleep to see if/how often she stops breathing. The obstructive sleep apnea is caused by her floppy windpipe and also the disproportionate size of her tongue (it's smaller than most babies, but her jaw is even smaller still!)

We took two cars so Scott could leave earlier for work in the morning. As we drove down, we were racing against the clock to be on time, but still had time to make faces at each other. Then it struck me, I think we have managed to have fun throughout this prolonged hospital experience, and what a blessing that is.

As you can see here, Emma has fun too, while we waited for the technician..

Emma was very good, allowing the tech to stick all the probes to her head and body. As you may know, Emma loves wires so to keep her busy the tech gave her a set of wires she could play with and she left the others alone!

When it came time to put the canula in her nose she protested and tried to pull it out a few times during the night, but it was 8pm and she was tired! After I rocked her for a couple of minutes she was a sleep and only woke briefly a couple of times all night.

In the morning the technician had to pull off all the probes she had stuck on the night before! Emma did not like that and after was covered in sticky patches!! I brought her home at 6am and put her straight in the bath. Thankfully she took a nap then so I could shower and ge tmy head down for an hour too.

We will get the results in 1-2 weeks!
