Not much news today! We only visited Emma for a short time today. Despite the sedation she was awake and quite alert. Because her heart rate and breathing are relaxed they let her stay awake unless she gets distressed. I think she was more distressed by our presence, because we didn't pick her up and she can't move around much.
We could hold her if we wanted, however knowing how upset she gets when you put her back, we felt it was kinder to leave her be. We simply put her mobile on and she was good!
The swelling seems to be subsiding and judging by her vital signs she isn't in pain. I'm sure she's a bit confused by her tongue!
We're going to visit again tomorrow for a couple hours, but we are not going to have any visitors until we are sure she is over the surgery. We want her to get as much rest as possible.
They have continued her feeds and she is back on 20ml per hour, as of 6pm. We should know by the end of the week if now the tongue has been fixed (literally!), whether the floppy airway and reflux are going to pose more problems.
Watch this space!
