Day at the beach

On Saturday we decided to take advantage of the great weather we get here all summer (sorry, had to rub it in for the guys in the UK!!) and headed to the beach for a day. The drive is about an hour and 30 minutes, not bad for a day trip, even with traffic.

On the way Emma was playing with one of her favorite car toys - my road map!!

At the beach we set up the tent and instantly relaxed. I think beaches are like airplanes, in that you don't have to be in one for long before you lose all sense of time!! A day on the beach can feel like a vacation. The weather was a balmy 8o degrees, with a cool sea breeze, and the water was about 70 degrees. It was so clear I even saw some fish in the shallows!

Emma was not so steady on the dry sand, but she was able to walk on the wet sand. She held on to Kimberly and my hands though at first, the water was intimidating!! That said, when she got hit with a wave in Daddy's arms she just laughed!!

You can't go a whole day without a nap, and Emma slept for about an hour, which gave us time to eat our lunch!

On the way home, about 4pm Emma was visibly tired so I put on the lullaby CD. It worked on Kimberly, me and almost Scott, but Emma was up the entire drive!!

It's so great to live within a daytrip distance of great beaches. In the UK the nice beaches are not far from my grandparents house, but the weather is often a deterrent from making a trip!!
