On Sunday, Pastor Bob preached from Psalm 24, which starts like this:
The earth is the LORD's, and everything in it,
the world, and all who live in it;
the world, and all who live in it;
for he founded it upon the seas
and established it upon the waters.
and established it upon the waters.
As I rode the train to the hospital today (which was quite relaxing) I took out the electronic bible a friend from church gave me and looked the Psalm up. How important is it to remember that God made EVERYTHING and to him it belongs. When you borrow something from a friend you know it is not yours, so you [should] take good care of it, but also know that you are not ultimately in control of what happens to it.
With Emma, we have been blessed to care for her and strive to do so with the best we have. God has entrusted us with her. We will of course give her back to him through encouraging her to love and serve God, and others as he commanded. But also it is good to remember that she belongs to him and he will ultimately take care of her.
As I scrolled through the psalm on the tiny screen I rolled into Psalm 25 and was so glad I did! My prayer for today and every day, as perfectly phrased by David is Psalm 25:5:
guide me in your truth and teach me,
for you are God my Savior,
and my hope is in you all day long.
for you are God my Savior,
and my hope is in you all day long.
Emma is back on the high-flow canula at 2 liters today. They realized that she needs the humidity to move the secretions that build up in her throat. They can't use medication to dry the secretions as it will likely choke her! The good news is she can come home on a canula. So I believe (still need to talk to the docs) they will leave the air alone and move onto her feeding.
She is now getting twice the extra calories to help her gain weight, and since her feeding tube has come out 3 times in the past 2 days they want to try her NG (naso-gastric) again - into her stomach. She can come home if she tolerates feeds NG, because we can place her tube, and re-place it if it comes out. She'll also need to go back to bolus feeds, not the continuous pump feeding she has now.
However, it is now Friday. I'm sure most of you look forward to the weekends, home from work etc. We do too. However the weekends are usually a time of no or slow developments in Emma's treatment so they do have a negative. Saying that, they can make feed changes on the weekend so hopefully it won't be progress-less.
