Speech Therapy

Today Emma had an extra session of speech therapy. Toby had no plans, so he decided to come with us, for the first time! Thankfully Emma's therapist was not bothered at all and let us all come back to the little classroom together.

We've been working on helping Emma with the "f" sound in words. She's doing really well and loves to demonstrate. So we're moving onto something a bit harder - the "k/c" sound. Currently the k or c in a word comes out as a t or d.

As you can see Miss Ally works with Emma to position her lips, tongue and teeth in the right place - and Emma is only too happy to look in the mirror for a half hour!

Keeping the mouth open and tongue down is not easy, so we're using a rather medical technique...
Emma's been practicing the sound during the day and is doing really well, even if it does currently sound like a hairball in the back of her throat. It's amazing the amount of patience and willingness to learn!

I brought a drink and big bag of pretzels to keep Toby amused and as little of a distraction as possible!! Half an hour was long enough - any longer and he'd have been climbing all over the table - as opposed to leaning on it with his entire torso!
As you can see, he's feeling much better and hasn't had any diarrhea since Sunday!
